Design Hotel THE THIEF

the thief hotel, oslo

After discovering designer T Michael, Norway has been on the forfront of our minds as of lately an since travel is of utmost importance to us we began looking for hotels in the area and discovered a gem. Our buddies or at Design Hotel told us know about Oslo’s first waterfront hotel, The Thief which it set to up this January. Located between the iconic Astrup Fearnley Museum, the Oslofjord and the canals of Tjuvholmen Island, the gradient façade of the hotel will introduce guests to the city’s new cultural center with fantastic views of the fjord and exciting new architecture. The site of thieves, prostitutes and shady activities in the 18th century, Tjuvholmen today is home to one of Scandinavia’s most exciting urban renewal projects. The finest contemporary art, architecture and gastronomy are taking over the island.

The Thief Hotel

Within the walls of the hotel, The Thief will reflect the avant-garde spirit of its surroundings. The best of contemporary art will sit alongside upcoming local pieces, handpicked by a world-class curator, and furniture by design greats mixed with those of upcoming Norwegian designers. Video art-on-demand will be another exclusive highlight at this new Design Hotels member property.

In its efforts to steal you from the everyday, THE THIEF keeps things local. From featuring upcoming Norwegian talent on its walls to commissioning local designers such as Maggie Wonka to design the bathrobes or Røros Tweed and L&J for the woolen blankets. Putting a spin on conscious cooking and classic Norwegian cuisine, head chef Kari Innerå of Fru K, the hotel’s restaurant, has kept a strong focus on regional and organic ingredients, positioning it to join the ranks of Oslo’s top dining venues. Having grown up on a farm, Innerå knows the growers who supply her kitchen, where the sheep graze, and how to get cut and dried salted fish at its best. To take a bit of Oslo home with you, products like THE THIEF’s custom-made herring caviar and specially-cured ham, come in neat little packages. When venturing out, choose from a range of curated maps for the best in design and architecture, the best local fashion and beauty tips, and even one for checking out Oslo’s vibrant music scene
