Winter can be a long, cold, and lonely place to be! Sometimes I need a pick-me-up and a reminder that warmer days are on the horizon. I draw myself back to my previous vacation in Hawaii. If you’ve ever visited before, you know that Hawaii is pure paradise. Just thinking of it brings about warm, festive, and relaxed feelings that are quite welcoming during the harsh winter months.
After my stay at Halekulani Hotel on Waikiki Beach, which is ranked amongst the top hotels in Honolulu, I wanted to share the following recipe for a homemade Mai Tai with my friends back home on the east coast. Mai Tai cocktails are synonymous with warm, sunny, and relaxed Polynesian days and are quite popular on the islands of Hawaii.
The drink really is tropical heaven and is a party hit whenever served. Whip up a batch or two of these Mai Tai’s and you’ll be swept out of the winter funk and into dreaming of being on beautiful Waikiki Beach in the warm sun. They are extremely easy to make and this recipe yields very delicious Mai Tai’s that are just like the ones I enjoyed on the islands.
Halekulani Mai Tai Recipe:
1/3-Ounce Orgeat Syrup
1/3 Ounce Orange Curaçao
1/3-Ounce Rock Candy Syrup
3/4-Ounce Bacardi Gold Rum
1/2-Ounce Bacardi 151 Rum
1 1/4 Ounce Fresh Lime Juice
3/4 Ounce Bacardi Select (float)
– Build over crushed ice and float with 3/ 4 ounce of Bacardi Select Rum.
– Garnish with a lime wheel, a sugar cane stick, a mint leaf, and a Vanda orchid, just like on the islands.
The Halekulani Hotel is located on Kalia Road on Waikiki Beach, Waikiki. With stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the world-famous Diamond Head, there is no better place in which to stay during a trip to gorgeous Hawaii. Pristine and spacious suites, a pool to die for, and a relaxing and rejuvenating spa welcome you at the hotel as well as the lovely beach area. However, if you can’t make the trip – don’t be silly and think you can’t have some of the Hawaiian luxuries from your own home. Enjoy this decadent treat in your own home!
